The Literacy SparkED Process
A clear, supportive path from first meeting to meaningful progress.
Literacy SparkED begins with understanding your child’s needs, then builds targeted instruction around their specific strengths, gaps, and learning profile.
Free Trial Session
We begin with a free 30-minute trial session to meet your child, discuss concerns, and determine whether Literacy SparkED is a good fit for your learner.
Lesson Structure
Lessons are 1 hour in length and take place 1–3 times per week from my home in central NW Calgary. Parents may choose to drop off their child or stay during the session.
Diagnostic Assessment
An informal comprehensive diagnostic literacy assessment is conducted during the first few lessons to identify your child’s strengths, skill gaps, and current level of understanding. This helps determine what concepts are known, emerging, or still needing explicit instruction.
Individualized Instruction
Each lesson is carefully planned and tailored to your child’s specific needs. Instruction is targeted, systematic, and designed to build skills step by step.
Areas of Focus
Together, your learner and I will work to strengthen skills in areas including:
Phonemic awareness and phonograms
Letter-sound correspondences
Decoding and encoding strategies
Reading and spelling
Syllable types
Spelling rules
Morphology
Reading fluency and comprehension
Sight words
Penmanship
Engaging Practice and Review
Concepts are reinforced through structured drills and review activities, with games incorporated where possible.
Ongoing Support
Review materials are sent home after each lesson to encourage continued practice, and regular progress updates are provided for parents and teachers.
